Finding Faith

We believe in one God, who is known to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ, the Son, shows us who our loving God is and how we are to live.  We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for us and rose to life again, opening up to us the way of forgiveness and eternal life.

Following Jesus is a journey of life-long learning and growth as we study the scriptures (the Bible), develop our prayer lives, and connect with other Christians to help us on our way.  We believe that the Holy Spirit is with us to guide us as we grow in faith and helps us to live fruitful lives.

When someone decides to follow Jesus, they mark this important decision by being baptised.  This means being washed clean and beginning again and reminds us that no matter what lies in our past, we can find forgiveness by coming to Jesus and making a choice to follow him.

Christians meet regularly, usually on a Sunday morning, to worship together.  This means gathering and offering thanks to God for all that we have, finding out more about the God who loves us, and asking God to forgive us and help us to live as we should.  We share bread and wine together in a special service called Holy Communion or the Eucharist, and we seek to encourage each other to share the love of God in our daily lives, through sharing our relationship with Jesus and making a difference in our community.

I want to know more, where do I start?

Many people begin by trying to read the Bible, which can be a difficult task if you start on page 1!  You might like to read one of the four stories about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, which you can find in the New Testament section of the Bible in the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  (Mark is a very good one to start with.)

The best way to find out more about the Christian faith is to go along to a church.  Different churches have different traditions and styles of worship and there will be one where you feel you belong.  Here at St George’s, we welcome all people, and if you would like to come to church for the first time and are feeling a bit unsure you can use the contact button on our website to get in touch with us and together, we can explore how to best support you.

Our calendar has details of our services and events, and you are very welcome to come along and join us.
